Carl Maas, PhD

Center Director

Carl brings over twenty-five years’ experience working with public, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations in the United States, Costa Rica, Equatorial Guinea, South Korea, and elsewhere. His substantive focus has been primarily on child welfare research, specifically, understanding how to prevent family violence. Carl has been involved in longitudinal research looking at intergenerational cycles of family violence; helped create access platforms to provide social services to non-English speaking communities; developed data collection systems and managed data sets to capture program and organizational performance; and developed strategic funding portfolios to support long-term, sustainable health and education programming.

Carl has a PhD in Social Welfare from the University of Washington through an NIMH Prevention Science Fellowship. He was a Returned Peace Corps Fellow while obtaining a dual MSW/MPHA degree from the University of South Carolina.
