Crystal Phillips, BSW, MBA

Child Welfare Trainer

Crystal Phillips facilitates Child Welfare Training for the Center for Child and Family Studies at the University of South Carolina. Crystal uses her practical experience from field work to provide knowledge, skills, and support to child welfare workers as they increase their critical thinking skills, become proficient in best casework practice, and learn to recognize and respond to abuse and neglect.

Crystal has over 8 years of experience in the child welfare system. Previously, Crystal worked as the Intake Coordinator for a private foster care agency where she recruited, trained, and licensed foster families for the State of Oklahoma and South Carolina. In addition Crystal has over 15 years of experience working with children from all walks of life as a mentor, teacher, case manager, and behavior modification specialist.

Crystal received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Oral Roberts University and her Master of Business Administration degree from Kaplan University.

Crystal has a passion for understanding trauma and the impact that trauma can have on children and their families. Crystal believes that if the adults in children’s lives can become trauma informed and implement these skills in daily interactions, we can lessen the impact that the trauma of abuse and neglect can have on a child’s future.
