Debra Brandes

Program Manager, Instructional Design

Debra Brandes supervises the curriculum development area and the design of learning experiences to meet the needs of our partners who serve our state’s most vulnerable populations. This area operates as part of the Instructional Design and Production Team at the Center.

Ms. Brandes has extensive experience in management and in instructional design and development. She has recently been working as a consultant for two training development companies where she has been using cognitive task analysis (CTA) to enhance the learners’ experience. CTA is a type of task analysis aimed at understanding tasks that require a high degree of cognitive activity from the learner, such as decision-making, problem-solving, memory, attention and judgement.

Prior to her consultant work, she was the Director of Operations and Change Directives at BlueCross BlueShield of SC. Among her responsibilities at BC/BS were revamping programs and technology adoption, which included development and implementation of training. In addition, she was the Program Manager for the Alzheimer’s Disease Registry when it first launched. Ms. Brandes has her BA in Anthropology & Archeology from the University of South Carolina, and a number of management and insurance certificates (FLMI and PAHM).

Ms. Brandes is committed to furthering the practice of creating relevant and engaging instructional design using the most successful learning strategies in order to advance the vision of the Center.
