Leadership Development

leadershiptrainingThe Center is collaborating with DSS to focus and enhance the leadership skills and abilities of the Human Services and Economic Services staff. The Center has partnered with DSS to assess their training needs, identify core competencies, develop the core curriculum and provide training with Center staff, DSS staff and outside experts.

The Center offers both Executive Leadership training for supervisors and leadership training to future leaders with the “Nuts & Bolts of Effective Supervision and Leadership for Current/Future Leaders.”

The Center also offers the four-day training workshop “Learning to Lead.” In this four-day training, child welfare supervisors brush up on supervisory skills and learn cutting edge practices and policies. In addition to offering skills practice in a variety of areas, the training also provides supervisors with a supportive community, in person and online, where they can discuss challenges, describe successes, and brainstorm new ideas. Learning to Lead covers the following topics:

  • Trauma
  • Accessing, interpreting, and acting on data
  • Supporting workers
  • Building collaborative relationships
  • Guided Supervision
  • Writing behavioral treatment plans
  • Making ethical decisions
  • Documentation skills
  • Leading change
