Stephanie Payne

Training and Development Director

As a Training and Development Director with The Center for Child and Family Studies, Ms. Payne serves as one of the Lead Child Welfare Trainers charged with facilitating instructor-led and web-based training for the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoptions staff and management. This includes the initial Child Welfare certification training, along with advanced training on policy and procedures and best case practice in child welfare. Additionally, Ms. Payne has traveled across the state to facilitate debriefings for the differing SCDSS County offices regarding their results from the Child and Family Services Quality Assurance Review. She then assisted those Counties in developing an internal program improvement plan.
Ms. Payne, a Licensed Master Social Worker, has provided quality social work services to some of the most vulnerable populations: children in foster care as a Foster Care Case Manager with SCDSS and the criminally insane as a Forensic Social Worker with South Carolina Department of Mental Health.

Ms. Payne is an honor graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC where she received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology.  In addition, she holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Carolina.  While at UofSC, Ms. Payne was a recipient of the Creating Child Welfare Professionals Traineeship, a highly competitive stipend program for students interested in child welfare, which ignited her passion for working with abused and neglected children.

Ms. Payne is deeply invested in the development of child welfare professionals. She believes it is a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together.
