Due to the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure the protection of the health and safety of South Carolinians, Center for Child and Family Studies staff members are working remotely. The best way to reach us is by email.

Child Welfare Training

Child WelfareOne of the Center’s biggest current contributions to the well-being of South Carolina’s most vulnerable children and families are Child Welfare Training programs designed for DSS. We research, design and offer trainings that deal with everything from the fundamentals of Child Welfare to focused workshops on crucial job skills for caseworkers.

Policy and Quality

The Center offers trainings based on the content of current policy. Here, caseworkers come to us to learn the fundamentals of their craft. These content-based trainings educate and inform caseworkers about policy so that they can work with confidence within the DSS system.

We also offer trainings that help caseworkers improve the quality of their current skills. We offer workshops on effective communication, leadership and documentation that help caseworkers go beyond their baseline and become more efficient and sophisticated in their field.

The Lifecycle of Training

The Center is uniquely positioned not only as trainer but also as reviewer and analyst to allow a constant flow of current information to inform each step of our offerings. When we offer Quality Assurance Reviews to counties, we collect a rich array of data that allow us to see exactly where state counties can benefit from further, deeper, or new training. Then, we can use that data to design up-to-the-minute trainings that we can quickly offer to statewide employees, on demand.
