Citizen Review Panel

Citizen Review PanelFederal law requires Citizen Review Panels in each state to evaluate the extent to which state and local child protection agencies are effectively discharging their child protection responsibilities.

In South Carolina, the child protective services system at the Department of Social Services is assessed by three citizen panels: the Upstate, Midlands, and Lowcountry.

Citizen Review Panel Panel members have professional qualifications, personal experience with the child protective services system, or the natural interest of a concerned citizen.

Panel members review the policies, procedures, and practices of the child protective services system and prepare an annual report with recommendations to improve the system.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services is mandated by federal law to respond.

The safety and well-being of the children of South Carolina are everyone’s responsibility. You can help by volunteering your time and talent.
