Janel R Mitnaul

Program Manager – Quality Assurance

Janel is a program manager with the Quality Assurance Division of the Center for Child and Family Studies. The Quality Assurance team engages in a review of child welfare services of the South Carolina Department of Social Services in county and regional offices to provide feedback on how the state is meeting state statue to provide assistance in development of a Continuous Quality Improvement Program, gather data and determine to what degree services are delivered in compliance with the federal and state laws and agency policy, and assess the outcomes for children and families engaged in the child welfare system. As a part of the team, Janel is responsible for leading the quality assurance reviews, externally reviewing cases to ensure quality, and providing training for new and veteran reviewers. 

Janel has over twenty years of child welfare experience in South Carolina. She has worked for the University of South Carolina since 2007 with the Children’s Law Center and Center for Center for Child and Family Studies. She also has experience with the South Carolina Department of Social Services in Foster Care and Adoptions. Janel is active in the community as a volunteer with sexual trauma survivors.

Janel received her Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Winthrop University in 1994 and her Master of Social Work Degree from the University of South Carolina in 1998. Janel is a Licensed Master Social Worker.

Janel’s personal mission is best summarized by an Anne Frank quote: “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment to improve the world (or the life of a child).”
